Daffodil Festival

The last weekend of April, the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce holds their annual Daffodil Festival – a weekend of events to celebrate springtime awakening on Nantucket Island. The first occasion, a very simple affair in the 1970s, included an antique car parade in which islanders showed off their classic cars, followed by a community tailgate picnic in ‘Sconset. Brewster in Bloom Festival

In the mid-1980’s, a group of residents planted hundreds of daffodils along Rt. 6A in Brewster to mark the beginning of spring. What a sight to see after a long, cold, gray winter! From this, the Brewster in Bloomsm festival was born. The 3-day festival was organized to celebrate spring, bring residents and visitors to town and offer free events. Paul Sanchez began writing songs and playing his first professional shows in the French Quarter before he turned sixteen.  By the 1980’s, Paul was an established part of the New Orleans rock scene, playing in The Backbeats along with Vance DeGeneres, another native New Orleanian.
