Johnny Kelley Half Marathon

Named for the legendary “Marathon Man of Boston” who competed in more than 60 Boston Marathons between 1928 and 1992 — and twice won the race, in 1935 and 1945 — the Johnny Kelley Half Marathon is one of three running events at The Great Hyannis Road Races, the annual springtime running event that also includes the Barnstable Police Officer Michael Aselton 5K. Join us for an evening of excellent poetry and music. Poetry will be provided by accomplished poets including Emma June Botelho Ayres, Leonard Germinara, Matthew Lippman and Michael Morse. The music will be provided by jazz vocalist Chev Hardy. So they can pay the poets and musician well-deserved honoraria, the Voices of Poetry group will charge a modest admission of $10 per person. Paul Sanchez began writing songs and playing his first professional shows in the French Quarter before he turned sixteen.  By the 1980’s, Paul was an established part of the New Orleans rock scene, playing in The Backbeats along with Vance DeGeneres, another native New Orleanian.
